Registers overview
A register is the main place where you organise a group of classes in Swimio. It holds the recurring classes, their schedules, their prices, and the students who take part.
You can think of a register as a folder for one course or programme. The register sets the shared rules, such as the days classes can run and how long students can keep enrolling. Each class inside the register is a lesson that repeats on a schedule.
What a register contains
Section titled “What a register contains”A register brings several things together in one place:
- Classes: the recurring lessons that run inside the register. See Set up a class.
- Schedules: the days and times each class runs. See Class schedules.
- Students: the people enrolled in the classes and using the seats.
- Prices: how much a place in the register costs.
- Working days: the days of the week the register is allowed to run classes.
- Enrolment rules: how long students can keep joining before a class starts.
Register types
Section titled “Register types”When you create a register, you choose its type. The type decides how the register behaves. You cannot change the type after the register is created.
| Type | Best for | How it runs |
|---|---|---|
| Perpetual | Ongoing weekly lessons with no fixed end | Runs continuously. Students can join and leave over time. |
| Term | A course that runs for a set period, such as a school term | Has a start date and a planned end date. |
| Crash Course | A short, intensive course over a few set days | Runs on a short, fixed list of days, such as a holiday course. |
The type also changes small parts of how enrolment, matching, and pricing work. The right pages explain these differences where they apply.
Start and end dates
Section titled “Start and end dates”Every register has a start date. This is the first day its classes can run.
A Perpetual register has no end date. It keeps running until you archive it.
A Term or Crash Course register has a planned end date. This is the last day you planned for it to run. After its last active day, it stops running and is archived on its own. See Automatic archiving.
The life of a register
Section titled “The life of a register”A register moves through a few stages:
- Create the register and choose its type. See Set up a register.
- Add classes and set their schedules.
- Enrol students into the classes and manage their places.
- Run the register day by day, and handle any changes to single sessions or closures.
- Archive the register when it ends. A Term or Crash Course register archives on its own after its last active day. A Perpetual register has no end date, so you archive it by hand, now or on a date you choose. See Automatic archiving and Archive a register.
Once a register is archived, it becomes read-only. You cannot add new classes, offer new places, or make other changes to it.
